TeamSpeak Etiquette

Post by H0U$T0N »

I have noticed over the past few weeks that our community is growing and I welcome all the new members with open arms. The new blood brings new experiences and new friendships that is what our group is all about. With the expansion of the community comes and increase in population in our TeamSpeak server as well. While this does make gaming more enjoyable with friends to communicate with, it also creates a challenge for some while they are trying to concentrate. I am suggesting a few items to consider while gaming in TeamSpeak. I will be the first to admit that I am no angel and sometimes get a bit too loud but that is something I am working on. Also, I am not the boss of anyone and you don't have to do anything if you don't want to but please just take a few moments to read this and at least consider your fellow gamers while in the channel.

If you are having a bad game (we all do from time to time, its just part of it) please refrain from screaming at the top of your lungs at the game or individuals. If you want to yell, please do it off mic. This also goes for yelling profanities. Most of the members are adults and have heard bad language but after awhile it just gets vulgar.

If you want to visit with a member and have a lengthy discussion on something (related or non-related to the game), it might be possible that not everyone is interested the topic so please go into another channel for that discussion.

That's it, just a few things to keep in mind while you are in TeamSpeak. I think if we all try to be a little more considerate in the channel we wont have to talk over ourselves while playing and will have a more enjoyable time.

Thank you for your time.

Yup, yup, yup! Very well written post sir!

Unfortunately the primary offenders rarely come into the forums to read your words of wisdom dollar sign dollar sign, but it has gotten better lately since I am no longer in on week nights.

Guilty from time to time! The primary offenders usually have the option enabled when you speak it picks it up. I recently made the switch to force myself to key the mic to eliminate most of my calling "bs" with questionable (or sometimes more skillful) plays against me. So perhaps it should be brought up to community members and recommended to turn off the feature that just picks up sounds and bind speaking to a key of some sort.

I know around the same time me and shake changed our options and it seems to be working positively for us and our games. I did not realize how much it carried until recently. :dash2:

That being said, people are recruited into PGC very easily it seems, which is fine and dandy, but when they fill out a application a suggestion I'd have is to make it really clear that teamspeak is to talk, not scream and maybe it could be a requirement to have a key-in OR to differentiate channels as like "Casual Play" and "Focused Play" I brought up a similar idea beforehand and the response was, if you want to be serious, just go to a different channel, but this is not working because channels are not differentiated nor accommodating. Making a "Cigar and Whiskey" section doesn't translate to casual play when the common BF4 channel translates to a festival of casual voices. Serious (for the night) players do not switch channels because everyone is in the general channel. People like clearly labeled things, the TS server is a bit vague to be honest. :scare2:

Some members are more focused then others or less talkative, and sometimes people go on teamspeak just to talk which is fine. I can vouch for myself that usually I go on teamspeak to have fun with you all, but from time to time I just want to coordinate a little more effectively with my team. A actually clearly labeled BF4 ts room would help rectify the situation because the so called casual channels we have in place just are not being used. I believe that to be of slight labeling misconceptions and a generation gap between some of the people here.

And yes, I've noticed this problem with other members as well, which tends to be newer members in a younger age group, if we get annoying, tell us to shut the **** up, if they get pissy and leave TS and/or leave PGC then they are not worth having around, anyone disagree?

I don't mean to criticize negatively, just trying to help keep PGC a fun community! :dirol:

I absolutly love it when Ninja and Shake and Bake are in TS. They sound like two brothers. Very refreshing.

The whole issue about keeping TS tactical has been around forever and was frequently discussed in the old EZ days. I just don't see any way around it. For the moments when non gaming talk is ruling the airwaves you can switch channels or just use the squad VOIP feature mapped to a different button.

It really does not bother me that much compared to having teammates who do not play the objective. Shayno can get the price of a 12 pack of Corona from 4 different people spread out across the continent in team speak but he is right there capping "A" with me and giving me ammo. Nothing pisses me off more than being in a squad where I get steamrolled by 4 players because I am the only one taking a flag and the other 4 are three miles out at the out of bounds sniping or chasing a mobile artillery truck that is having no effect on the game.

By far the biggest issue right now is definitely people running up the BS flag and I do it with the best of them. BF4 is about as commercially viable as a shop that sells soup sandwiches without a bowl. The game is the problem and not the players. But it is natural to associate the problem with the player and not the game. For example, this past weekend I was up on the train tracks at "A" on Linguini Gardens behind the entire row of cars. I was standing over Waggs and about to revive him when Tangle shot me through ALL OF THE CARS with his sniper rifle. So he basically saw me on his computer screen when I was about to jump down off of the platform to the tracks...but I was actually nowhere near visible to him on my screen because I was already on the tracks. Having that happen once in a while is sort of tolerable but I can go 3 consecutive rounds with someone doing it to me 3 or more times a round. Usually it is the same someone all three rounds. It adds up and you finally run of patience with just getting up and going back out there.

This is the perfect Smily to describe the process ----> :dash3:

This is when you can no longer :dash3: and have to quietly leave ----> :gamer3:

It is best to leave and avoid escalating to this ----> :fuk:

Now you know why i mute it or turn it off, either TS side or sound side on my end,and are really glad i do not own a headset :suicide_fool-edit:

will admit i have dropped the F-bomb few times but it seems to work to shut people up,who just go on and on about most trival ,i mean get a life for god sake[being harsh i know but to the point],another thing that really does get on my goat is when you do try to say something constructive some muppet just thinks its ok to bleed all over you,so maybe a good idea if someone feels that someone is getting OTT,just mute there TS channel, after a while you will get hey i was muted!!!!....well you know why now!

Hoping to make things a little easier a few changes were made to the room names in TS. :scenic:

New Rooms (names) :hunter:

Chit-Chat Room = for use while not on any game and only want to socialize. :drinks:
Battlefield 4 Chill Out Lounge = for use while playing BF4 but want to socialize. :drinks:
Battlefield 4 Strategic Gaming Team 1 = for use when you don't want to socialize but to play the game and strategize with your teammates/squad :vinsent:
Battlefield 4 Strategic Gaming Team 2 = for use when you don't want to socialize but to play the game and strategize with your teammates/squad :vinsent:

Scourge has told many of us on how to change the TS settings so that it announces who’s coming in to TS. I always try out different female voice packs for TS, that it goes back to standard settings again. It would be great if Scourge or someone would post in the forums a how to and that any future members who are interested in learning how to do this need to be told to go to the forums were it will tell them how to do it. It will or hopefully will force that player to logged onto the forum to read the how to but also look around the forums. A post might catch that persons eye. Then again, that person could back channel a member on how to do it. :telephone:
